Couldn’t Get Closer to Heaven

Sometimes the people I do business with are so wonderful you don’t want the project to end. That’s how I feel about this project! This couple remodeled their home and needed help with not only a new driveway, but also a complete landscape plan to accent their beautiful stone home.

My clients are excellent gardeners, and it’s only because of their talents that this landscape exceeds even my dreams! This site is surrounded by huge maples and oaks. It is a virtual aviary. Birds are singing almost continually. So it was a designer’s dream to work with such dedicated and talented people in such a beautiful setting.

The first decision was to use pavers on the driveway. It was a simple pattern that didn’t distract from the beautiful sandstone siding on the home. We added a bit of “punch” by putting an accent band around its perimeter. This then was the beginning of the hard surface selections. The side door to the home was used regularly to carry in groceries, so additional access needed to be designed to that part of the residence. We continued the pavers that were chosen for the driveway along this walkway, but where they met the stoop we accented with a large flagstone entry pad to coordinate with the home’s exterior. This walkway then leads one to the back circular meditative garden which is enclosed with a small knee wall highlighted with stone capped lighted columns. This area is almost completely encased with fragrant perennials and blooming trees. It is a beautiful area to relax in and take in the birds and other sounds of nature. When one leaves this area you can either enter the four-season porch, or proceed onto the larger patio which is used for outdoor grilling and entertaining. Beautiful planted urns surprise you as you take each corner of this adventure.

The larger grilling area has a serpentine stepped wall outlining the area, concealing a rather unsightly deck area. The deck was reconstructed, and a curving railing design installed completely around it forming a balcony. The wall and the balcony now have a lyrical quality to them, and compliment the other curving walkways. This area is also very heavily planted with small blooming ornamentals, shrubs, and perennials. Small statuary punctuates the once voided places. Night lighting enhances the usability of the area at night and accent certain plants and trees.

The entry garden to the estate also incorporates a long serpentine capped wall which complements the rest of the residential landscape surrounding the home.

This is very beautiful and peaceful surroundings! This project was done in 2011. It was completely designed and facilitated by Landscape Solutions.
