A Lake Retreat in Madison

A young couple living in the Madison area was delighted when they found the home of their dreams on a Lake Monona water channel. The channel afforded them their dream of living on the water, while still being close to all that Madison had to offer. They enjoy the company of friends, and often times have large group gatherings. This couple wanted an unusual patio area that connected the residence to the water’s edge. They needed to have enough room to accommodate both a fire pit area, and possible dinning. The area also had to be a walkway to the dock.

Landscape Solutions brought impact to the area by incorporating large outcropping rock that would complement the water, and help define the patio spaces. The boulders also add interest and prominence, as well as define the space. Some of the boulders could be used as seating.

To cut the cost of more expense paving options, the decision to pour concrete was agreed upon. The concrete was embellished by cutting patterns into it, adding interest and dimension. To accent the look, rectangular concrete pads were poured leading one to and from the main patio. The entire area was accented with pounded cobbles encased with polymer sand. Smaller washed rock and fabric barrier was implemented under the plantings to cut down on maintenance. The area was accented by a variety of ornamental grasses, yellow tipped junipers, blooming shrubs, locust shade trees, and selective low maintenance perennials.

The landscape accents and compliments their contemporary home. It is a great multipurpose space that addresses their entertaining needs. They love the space and get lots of compliments.
